Statement
“Chinese poetry rarely trespasses beyond the bounds of actuality…the great  Chinese poets accept the world exactly as they find it in all its terms and with  profound simplicity…they seldom talk about one thing in terms of another; but are  able enough and sure enough as artists to make the ultimately exact terms become  the beautiful terms.”—Stephen Shore

Chris Otten’s work investigates the endless balance of “place” in urban and rural environments.  Exploration of perception is a continuous process that allows him to investigate areas of heightened awareness, incorporating the elements of space; articulating how the quintessential elements within a given place are in relation to one another.  His work has been included in exhibitions at the University of Central Oklahoma Donna Nigh Gallery (Edmond, OK), Oklahoma City Science Museum (Oklahoma City, OK), and Florida Consortium of Art Schools 2008 Traveling Exhibition (UF, FSU, and USF).  Otten’s work is included in the University of Central Oklahoma’s Mass Communications Department as a permanent collection.
