Incoming Grad Checklist
Before Arriving at USF
1) Receive checklist from Gloria (gquigley@arts.usf.edu), and plan to attend all relevant listed dates/times.
2) Fill out and submit Immunization paperwork
3) Register for your NetID on-line/activate your USF email
4) Contact the Registrar to ensure your transcripts have arrived. If they have not, be prepared to hand-deliver your sealed transcripts to the registrar and write down the name of the person you give them to. If your transcripts are not received, you will have difficulty with registration and financial aid, etc.
5) Ask Gloria to add your USF email address to the Art Department's listservs.
6) Become a member of MFAO (see the instructional PDF to the left)
7) Do not worry about registering for classes. You might receive emails from the Graduate School or other USF offices telling you it is important you register for classes. Ignore these emails - Richard Ollinger will have a meeting with all the first year students in August where you will discuss registering for classes. Your classes for the first semester will genereally consist of Graduate Seminar I, Contemporary Thought, and a Directed Study with faculty assigned to you.
Upon Arrival
1) See Gloria Quigley in the Art Office
2) Get HR paper work completed (direct deposit/setting up employee #)
3) Studio tour/paperwork/payment of $100 deposit
4) Get keys to your studio/department areas
5) Obtain a Florida Driver's License as soon as possible (you will not be able to register for classes your second year until you have had your FL driver's license for one year)
6) Get USF ID card at the Marshall Center
Primary Orientation
1) Learn about mailboxes, list-serves, parking, contact info for all faculty/staff
2) Sign up for health insurance
Shop Safety Training
1) Go over basic shop safety for anyone who will be passing through the shop
2) Additional safety training is available on individual machines for those who will be using the shop
Academic Advising (with Richard Olinger)
1) Learn about the process of registering each semester
2) Receive information packet detailing program requirements
3) Receive/Complete/Turn in Tuition Waiver form to Mary Kuka-Marchese in the advising office (also see her after you have registered for classes and she can tell you what you owe in fees, etc)
4) Receive/Complete/Turn in Directed Study form
Center for 21st Century Teaching Excellence Workshops (required for TAs)
Diversity, Active Teaching/Learning, Recommendations for the First Day of Class
Tour all rooms of the art building
Although not required, this is highly suggested
Graduate School Orientation (optional)
